EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specific technique and protocol for treating single event traumas, complex traumas, phobias, anxiety & depression and PTSD.  This technique is aimed to treat the symptoms and disturbances a patient experiences as a result of a trauma.  The goal for the client is integrate a more adaptive perspective of their experience while also working through negative beliefs/thoughts they have of themselves now, and integrating the a more positive belief/view of themselves they would prefer to believe.  Through this process the client should a decrease in symptoms and activation that may completely diminish over the course of therapy, while adopting or forming a different view of themselves and the experience.

 

There is tremendous value in this type of trauma processing that may occur over the span of a few session or potentially longer depending on the client.  Clients are also encouraged to utilize other resources, coping tool and skills, and access community support to build and foster new experiences moving forward.
